- Outside measurement – Circumference tapes (often known as PI tapes) for measuring pipes, shafts and other round components.
- Inside measurement – To determine the inside circumference and average diameter of round, oval of polygon bores.
- Linear measurement – Precision tapes for measuring plane-parallel distances, graduations are 1mm with a vernier scale of 0.1mm.
